PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller and a control method for an inverter capable of preventing a vehicle from passing through a prescribed stopping position due to insufficient braking force, and preventing generation of shock due to sudden change in the braking force if regenerative braking force lowers immediately before stopping and a pneumatic brake comes into action. SOLUTION: If filter capacitor voltage exceeds its reference value and electric power or current of a prescribed value or higher is supplied in the direction of stringing from an inverter, the magnitude of a torque command or a torque current command is decreased, thus suppressing regenerative power.
