PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collimating lens, a collimating system and a projection type image display device using the same capable of very efficiently condensing light emitted from a light source having directivity. SOLUTION: The image display device includes the light source having light emission angle distribution that light is emitted with relatively high intensity at least at one or more main light emission anglesΩ<SB>n</SB>, and the collimating lens where at least one or more prism parts having an emitting surface inclined at a prism angleα<SB>n</SB>corresponding to the angleΩ<SB>n</SB>are formed. Thus, the light radiated from the light source is collimated by the prism part having the prism angle corresponding to each main light emission angle, whereby light condensing efficiency is made high.
