PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a converting device capable of enhancing convenience on each of both sides that distribute and use contents under the conditions where use limitations intended to protect the copyright of contents have diversified.

SOLUTION: This device is provided with a right gateway 100 for converting the condition of use in the right information of contents to be transmitted from a repository 20 at the transmission origin to a repository 30 at the transmission destination in accordance with the right management capacity(capacity information 200) of the contents in the repository 30 at the transmission destination. With the right gateway 100 performing processing, the range of equipment and recording medium capable of use of the contents expands, and thereby the use of the contents is promoted.
