<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To apply optimum transfer bias under control regardless of the life of an image carrier and the thickness of a transfer material, thereby keeping transfer from an image carrier to a transfer material satisfactory all the time. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has transfer rollers 51 to 55 for transferring developer materials on photoreceptor drums 11 to 14 to transfer materials; a paper thickness calculating means 7 which obtains information about the thickness of each transfer paper P; a drum film thickness correcting means 2 which obtains information about the thickness of the photoreceptive layer of each photoreceptor drum 11; and a transfer control means 1 which controls a transfer bias applied to each transfer roller based upon the information about the thickness of the transfer material P and the information about the thickness of the photoreceptive layer of the photoreceptor drum 11. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
