PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data use position recorder and a data use position recording method that enable a movement of digital contents without causing loss of the digital contents while preventing unauthorized copying. SOLUTION: When digital contents are recorded, a recording part 105f writes identification information on the digital contents and a random number generated by a random number generation part 105e into a nonvolatile memory 110 and a built-in HDD 104. When the digital contents are moved from the built-in HDD 104 to another recording medium, if the random number in the nonvolatile memory 110 and the random number in the built-in HDD 104 match, and a readout start position of the digital contents is larger than an offset value in the built-in HDD 104, a determination part 105 g permits the movement of the digital contents and stores a readout end position of the digital contents in the built-in HDD 104 as a new offset value.
