PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compactly arrange a driving motor for driving a lens barrel and a gear train for transmitting the output of the driving motor to the driving motor. SOLUTION: A camera has a camera body, a film take-up chamber provided in the camera body and in one of right and left ends, a film loading chamber provided in the camera body and in the other end, and a photographic optical system which is arranged between the film take-up chamber and the film loading chamber and can be moved longitudinally in the direction of the photographic optical axis. The driving motor for driving the photographic optical system in the direction of the optical axis is arranged in a space formed by the difference in height between the film loading chamber and the film take-up chamber and above or below the film take-up chamber so that the output shaft of the driving motor may be extended outward in the lateral direction of the camera body.
