PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photodetecting device, a photodetecting method, a program and a recording medium, which can rapidly carry out a measurement. SOLUTION: The photodetecting device is used so that a plurality of measurement ranges are changed when measuring a characteristic of brightness of a plurality of color patches displayed by a displaying device. The photodetecting device includes a measurement range setting means which sets an order of the measurement ranges used for measuring the color patches on the basis of an output color characteristic of the displaying device and/or a result of the color patch measured previously.
