PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piezoelectric speaker in which acoustic characteristics are enhanced by reducing the weight of a diaphragm without lowering the rigidity of the diaphragm and the thermal expansion coefficient on the surface. SOLUTION: A clad material having a sandwich structure of different kinds of material is employed in a diaphragm being pasted with a piezoelectric element. For example, a clad material having a total thickness of 50μm obtained by composing each surface material 7 of a 42 alloy 10μm in thickness and composing a core material 8 of aluminum 30μm in thickness is machined into an arbitrary shape to form a diaphragm for piezoelectric speaker. When this diaphragm is employed, the weight can be reduced by about 40% while sustaining the rigidity and the thermal expansion coefficient of the 42 alloy diaphragm having the same thickness of 50μm. Since the weight is reduced, sound level of the piezoelectric speaker can be enhanced while sustaining the rigidity of the diaphragm. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
