PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera by which a photographer utilizes an existing button to focus on an object by limiting a photographing range intended by the photographer so as to increase the focus speed. SOLUTION: In the digital camera having a function of automatically focusing on the object depending on the distance of the object; the function using a focus evaluation value acquired from a CCD and regarding a position with the maximum evaluation value as a focal point when the focus lens is moved from an infinite point or the nearest point, a distance designation button 4 in addition to a release button 2 is provided, whether or not the distance designation button 4 is depressed is detected when the release button 2 is depressed and a focus distance range for focusing can be designated on the basis of the result of detection.
