摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a life and to reduce its fluctuation when a multistage charge control system is adopted for a control valve type (seal type) lead storage battery using a lead alloy grid virtually not including Sb for a positive electrode grid used on the condition that it is charged constantly with a fixed charging voltage. SOLUTION: In a battery of multistage charge control system, in which a first stage charging voltage V<SB>1</SB>is set at an equilibrium voltage of the battery +80 mV or higher and a second-and subsequent-stage charging voltages V<SB>2</SB>to V<SB>n</SB>are set at less than the equilibrium voltage +80 mV or charging at the equilibrium voltage of +80 mV or higher is mixed as needed in compliance with a current value or a battery temperature or both of the values during the charging of the second or subsequent stages, the system effectively improves life with provision of the conditions such as not impairing a sealing reaction function of the lead storage battery or maintaining uniformity of the current density given to electrode plates during the charging, or arranging a thickness of positive electrode plates at 6.0 mm or less.
