PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately estimate temperature of cooling medium of a cooling system, and detect abnormality of the cooling system using the estimated temperature. SOLUTION: This water temperature estimating device of a cooling system comprises a cooling medium cooling an engine, and a passage for circulating the cooling medium in the engine. This device estimates or detects the temperature of the engine, and estimates the temperature of the cooling medium from heat exchange of the engine and the cooling medium. This device is equipped with a temperature detector installed in the passage and detecting the temperature of the cooling medium, and diagnoses the cooling system based on the detected temperature value due to the temperature detector and the estimated temperature due to the estimating device of the cooling system.
