<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image coding device which reduces coding quantity accurately based on coding quantity characteristics of the original image. <P>SOLUTION: When image data converted to frequency domains are coded, the coding quantity is reduced based on the coding quantity after loss-less entropy coding. A reduction coding quantity for each frequency domain is distributed in order of the data quantity or distributed to be equivalent to a ratio of the coding quantity for each frequency domain. When the ratio of the coding quantity for each frequency domain is calculated, reciprocal of the visual transfer function for each frequency domain and for each component are multiplied to each coding quantity. Furthermore, when the original coding quantity is short to the distributed reduction coding quantity, the spare coding code is reduced from the coding quantity of the higher frequency domain. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
