<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a broad band reflection polarizer attaining one-sided alignment with a single layer by using a simple method even when a non-fluidal liquid crystal alignment layer of the broad band reflection polarizer is made to be a film thicker than a specified value required for the broad band reflection polarizer. <P>SOLUTION: The broad band reflection polarizer has the non-fluidal layer which is formed by subjecting a cholesteric liquid crystal material containing an optically active group to Grandjean alignment and which has a reflection region with an effective component content of the optically active group continuously varying in the thickness direction thereof formed therein. The cholesteric liquid crystal material containing the optically active group is a cholesteric liquid crystal dendrimer with a partial structure containing the optically active group. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
