COMPRESSING OF PHYSIOLOGICAL SIGNALS IN A TELEMETRY SYSTEM

A medical testing system includes a data collection device having a patient interface for acquiring a physiological signal of a patient and a processor for generating a compressed physiological signal for transmission to a remotely located device via a communication link. The compressed physiological signal comprises (a) a difference value indicative of the difference between a sample of the physiological signal and a prediction of the sample when the difference is less than a predetermined amount and (b) the value of the sample of the physiological signal when the difference is greater than the predetermined amount. In one embodiment, the sample prediction is provided by a preceding sample and in another embodiment the sample prediction is generated by a polynomial fit to a plurality of previous samples.
