A multilayer piezoelectric element formed by layering, on a ceramic substrate, a plurality of piezoelectric units and a plurality of electrodes electrically connecting to the piezoelectric units, wherein a first piezoelectric unit is composed of a piezoelectric ceramic composition containing 0.08-0.31 mass% (in terms of NiO) of Ni, a second and subsequent piezoelectric units are each composed of a piezoelectric ceramic composition larger in Ni content than the first piezoelectric unit, and an electrode is provided at least between the first and second piezoelectric units. This multilayer piezoelectric element can provide a piezoelectric element having very high piezoelectric characteristics, and being excellent in vibration transmission performance between the ceramic substrate and piezoelectric units and suitable for actuators, sensors or the like. |
