RADIAL TUBE AIRBAG FOLDING APPARATUS

A folding apparatus (100) for inserting an airbag (60) and housing (40) into an interior cavity (34) of a cover (30) has an arcuately shaped tube (120). The tube is sized in cross-section to slidably receive the housing and draw the airbag up into the tube. The tube includes an open first end oriented so that a plane through the first end is substantially parallel to vertical. A ram assembly (170) is movable through the tube and is adapted to hold and move the housing and airbag through the tube. A holding apparatus orients the cover (30) so that its internal cavity is in alignment with and adjacent to the first end such that the housing and airbag can be rammed into the cover internal cavity.
