PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for controlling operation of an air conditioner is provided to determine whether fixed time has passed since power is cut off and to control the air conditioner to be immediately driven. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus includes a capacitor(C) charged with voltage when power is impressed; a first resistor(R1) and a first diode(D1) placed to charge the capacitor when voltage momentarily fluctuates or electric current is off again; a second resistor(R2) and a second diode(D2) placed to discharge the capacitor; and a microcomputer(10) determining whether fixed time has passed since the discharge to control an air conditioner to work. A method includes the steps of: a step determining whether the fixed time has passed since re-supply of power based on voltage charged in the capacitor; a step delaying driving of a compressor until the fixed time has passed using an inner timer if the voltage charged in the capacity is higher than a fixed value; and a step immediately driving the compressor if the voltage charged in the capacitor is lower than the fixed value.
