Disclosed are treatment media for incorporation into techniques and equipment that eliminate germs from water through silver catalysis. Treatment of water with such media provides an immediate germicidal effect to water, as well as a beneficial residual, germicidal treatment to the water through the release of silver ions thereto, wherein such silver ions are capable of preventing the formation of new germs in the water and/or of eliminating germs introduced therein
