Method and apparatus for mixing gaseous and/or sparingly soluble active materials with other fluids comprises feeding them in controlled doses into the fluid using pressure pulses. The method is especially useful for administering materials directly into the blood stream, into an extracorporeal blood stream, respiratory air or perfusion solutions. Independent claims are included for: (1) Apparatus for administering a gaseous active directly into the intravasal bloodstream comprising a tank and a dosing unit monitored by sensors which feed the material into a pipe connected to an administering unit, the material being fed in pulses from a premixer to the administering unit; (2) Similar apparatus for administering an undiluted active material directly into the intravasal bloodstream; (3) Apparatus for administering a gaseous active directly into the intravasal bloodstream comprising tanks for the active material (2) and for a spacer liquid (3) fitted with pipes which feed them separately to a premixer (1) which feeds them in portions to an administering unit which administers them in pulses; (4) A similar apparatus in which the premixer is integral with the administering unit and feeds the material in pulses; (5) Apparatus as above for administering a diluted active material directly into the intravasal bloodstream with a separate premixer and administering unit; (6) Apparatus as above for administering a diluted active material directly into the intravasal bloodstream with the premixer incorporated into the administering unit; (7) Similar apparatus for mixing gaseous active material with a medium in vitro fitted with a premixer; and (8) Apparatus for mixing gaseous active material with a medium in vitro in which the premixer is incorporated into the administering unit.
