A single access dialysis needle system comprises a first cannula (40), a second cannula or sheath (44), and a barrier (50) arranged on the outer surface of the first cannula (40). The distal end of the first cannula (40) extends distal to the distal end of the second cannula or outer sheath (44) and the barrier (50) is positioned between the respective distal ends. When the barrier (50) is inflated or otherwise activated, it prevents or minimize s recirculation.
