A theft deterrent device includes a first member and a second member which are hinged together between open and closed positions. In one embodiment of the invention, the holder defines openings that receive an item of merchandise when the members are closed to connect the device to the merchandise. Another embodiment of the device includes a loop that is held by a tooth in the device.
