The invention relates to a method for setting up a near field connection between an operating device and a terminal, especially a self-service terminal of a bank, savings bank or the like, whereby the operating device for accepting a connection, carries out a search inquiry for appropriate communications partners. The inventive method is characterized in that the search inquiry can be limited to a class of devices. Alternatively or additionally, while securing the connection as to prevent a third part from entering by means of an identification signal, which is exchanged between the terminal and the operating device, said identification signal is allocated to the operating device during a first near field connection between a terminal and said operating device, and the identification signal is permanently available for additional secured near field connections.
