An apparatus(100) such as a communication device, is provided wi th emoticon input logic associated with an input key(110) to improve the ease-of-use of the apparatus(100) for entering emoticons(112), e.g. into a text message(114), while the apparatus(100) is operating e.g. in a text mode. Responsive to a selection of the associated input key, one or more emoticons(112) are displayed for selection. A user may "scroll" through the one or more displayed emoticons(112) to "select" an emoticon(112). In one embodiment, current focus is placed on one of the displayed emoticons(112), and the emoticon(112) with the current focus is automatically selected upon elapse of a predetermined amount of time after the current focus was placed. |
