摘要 A method of microorganism identification comprises: a generating a sample sequence s1 comprising letters representing nucleic acid bases, said sequence beginning at a predetermined start point b comparing said sample sequence with a plurality of stored library sequences s2, s3 by: i selecting a library sequence s2, s3 ii identifying and recording a main substring match m comprising the longest unique string which the sample sequence sl and the library sequence s2, s3 have in common iii identifying and recording a front substring match f comprising the longest string that the two sequences sl, s2,s3 have in common between the start of the sample sequence sl and the main substring match m iv identifying a rear substring match r comprising the longest string that the two sequences sl, s2,s3 have in common between the end-of the main substring match m and the end of the sample sequence s1 v defining an estimated sequence comprising the front f, main m and rear r substring matches vi calculating an indication 8 of the degree of agreement between the estimated sequence and the library sequence s2, s3 c repeating steps b i to b vi for each of said library sequences s2, s3 and d identifying one or more library sequences 2 having the greatest degree of agreement with the sample sequence 6.
