HARDWARE FILTERING OF UNSOLICITED GRANT SERVICE EXTENDED HEADERS

A system and method are presented to utilize hardware (102, 104) instead of software to compare for bandwidth request changes between two consecutively received unsolicited grant service extended headers for the same service identifier, obtains significant saving in CPU cycles for the CMTS software (112). The system determines whether adequate bandwidth is being provided from a cable modem termination system (102) to a data provider during a unsolicited grant service flow.
