<p>A method and apparatus (14) by which potatoes and other elongate food product (32) can be properly oriented and stabilized during a slicing operation performed by a cutting device (50) having a horizontal cutting plane. The apparatus (14) includes a passage (50) extending downwardly toward the cutting device (30) and defining an opening (54) in proximity to the cutting device (30), guide means (46, 64) disposed along a first portion (48) of the passage (50), and means (52) for applying a force on a food product (32) traveling downward through the passage (50) so as to urge the product (32) into contact with the guide means (46,64) during engagement with the cutting device (30).</p> |
