A non-resorbable implant (100) for repairing or replacing damaged cartilage in a mammalian joint provides a soft and bendable "bearing surface" (110), which is bonded to a flexible anchoring grid (132). All components which make up the implant (100) should be flexible, so that the implant can be rolled up and surgically inserted into a joint using a minimally invasive incision, preferably by arthroscopic means. In one embodiment, the entire device has unitary construction, and is inserted as a single unit. In an alternate embodiment, a flexible anchoring component (132) is inserted first, and anchored to the bone; then, a bearing surface component is inserted and coupled to the already-installed anchoring component (200).
|
