The present invention is provides a method for enantioselectively epoxidizing electron deficient olefins, such as , alpha , beta -unsaturated esters. The method generally involves admixing the electron deficient olefin, an enantiomerically enriched chiral ketone, and an oxidizing agent under conditions sufficient to produce an enantiomerically enriched epoxide.
