The flap valve has a flap (14) mounted inside a flow channel (24) and swivelled by a shaft connected to same. A seal (30) connected to a channel wall (38) has at least one pressure pocket (32, 34) which communicates with the flow channel. The seal can be mounted in the main flow direction in front of the shaft and is preferably made of an elastomer material.
