The method involves receiving a sequence of digital code words on a transmission channel, whereby a protective signal qualifies as having been received when a code corresponding to the protective signal is detected in the sequence a defined number of times within a time window of defined length. The number is determined in accordance with an estimate of the current value of a disturbance in the transmission channel. AN Independent claim is also included for a remote triggering device for a distance protection arrangement in electrical systems.
