The expanding dowel has a metal sleeve (10) which is divided by longitudinal slits (16) into expanding sections (17) which spread out on inserting a screw (12). A frusto-conical expanding element (19) with axial threaded bore for engaging the screw is inserted and has a ring-shaped band (20) with teeth (21) and a shoulder (23) to engage with wings (24) bent out from the sleeve at the end of the slits. The wings are formed on conically expanding with areas of the slits and have an acute triangular shape protruding form the edges of the mouth areas.
