摘要 A device (101) is disclosed that is configurable to image discontinuities in a magnetic field. The magnetographic device comprises a lower polymer membrane (102) sealed to a transparent upper polymer membrane (103), wherein the two membranes form a pocket. A dispersion of magnetized particles (104) in a fluid (105) is encapsulated in the pocket. When placed close to a discontinuity in a magnetic field, the magnetized particles are operable to align and form an image in response to the discontinuity in the magnetic field. The image formed by the magnetized particles shows up features such as surface cracks or regions of different hardness in ferromagnetic materials. Further, the image shows the direction of magnetic flux of a magnetic field.
