METHOD FOR PRODUCING TITANIUM TETRACHLORIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing titanium tetrachloride in which chlorination reaction is easily restarted after suspension, as a method for producing titanium tetrachloride by reacting a titanium-bearing ore with gaseous chlorine in a fluidized state in a reactor vessel. SOLUTION: When chlorination reaction is suspended by stopping supply of gaseous chlorine, an inert gas is supplied to carry out cooling in such a way that the reactor vessel's contents retain the fluidized state. The production method enables smooth restart of chlorination reaction after suspension and is useful particularly in the case of using a titanium-bearing ore containing impurities in quantities as raw material.
