PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass substrate for a plasma display panel (PDP) excellent in the flatness of the glass substrate surface compared to a conventional one and to provide a method for manufacturing a glass substrate for a PDP by which the substrate can be continuously manufactured with high yield and the waste amount of a chemical polishing liquid can be decreased. SOLUTION: The polishing liquid 4 contains a polishing component having the effect to chemically polish the glass substrate 1 and a thickener having the effect to increase the viscosity of the solution, with each specified concentration, and is controlled to have the viscosity in the range from 5×10<SP>-1</SP>to 5×10<SP>5</SP>Pas. The polishing liquid 4 is applied in a specified amount on a glass substrate to promote the flattening reaction of the glass substrate.
