<p>1,222,178. Wired television distribution. P. FANNOY. 3 Feb., 1969 [29 Nov., 1968], No. 5676/69. Addition to 1,006,977. Heading H4R. In a wired television distribution system of the type described in parent Specification in which subscribers can select to have transmitted to them any one of a number of programmes stored at the station, each of the programme storage devices, e.g. magnetic tapes, has a coding signal recorded with the programme to enable the transmission automatically to be terminated at the end of a programme, and the programme carrier returned to its original position ready for a subsequent replay. In addition the coding signal causes an engaged or busy signal to be transmitted to a subscriber selecting a programme which is already being transmitted to another subscriber. It is suggested that each programme source is connected via frequency changing apparatus to one of a number of cables between the programme storage location and the subscriber. A number, e.g. 100, programmes are multiplexed on to each cable, and the subscriber is connected to whichever cable or cables carries material likely to be of interest. It is suggested that the subscriber may be able to preselect a number of programmes transmitted to him as selected, or when available.</p> |
