PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide improved methods and apparatuses for greatly reducing or eliminating visible color phase shift banding in a bi-directional color printing device. SOLUTION: The bi-directional printing device (102) is configured to use a plurality of color inks including at least one light color ink and at least one dark color ink. The method includes selectively printing at least one dark color ink to a printing medium on the basis of a non-uniform printing mask function (302).
