METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MANUFACTURING QUARTZ PIPE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quartz pipe which has uniform outside diameter distribution, small noncircularity, small eccentricity and excellent characteristics. SOLUTION: An apparatus for manufacturing the quartz pipe is provided with a heating means 6 for successively heating required regions of a glass raw material 1 consisting essentially of quartz to form softened regions and a penetrative jig 3 for forming an opening in the softened region of the glass raw material 1 by being penetrated in a longitudinal direction of the glass raw material 1 to form the quartz pipe. The penetrative jig 3 is provided with a top 3P constituting a penetrating region into the glass raw material and a supporting rod 3R having a taper part 3T an outside diameter of which gradually decreases as leaves the top.
