摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface modifying method for silica gel capable of modifying the surface of silica gel to ensure a property suitable for adsorbing an organic compound without breaking the porous structure of the silica gel and to provide an adsorbent having a property of adsorbing an organic compound improved by the surface modifying method. SOLUTION: B type silica gel disposed in a measuring device is heated at 180°C for 2 hr while introducing dehumidified air having 0.05 g/kg absolute humidity into the measuring device to remove the adsorbed surface water from the silica gel. Evacuation is then carried out at 0.067 kPa in the measuring device and cyclohexane vapor is adsorbed until adsorption equilibrium is attained. Evacuation is further carried out at 0.067 kPa in the measuring device to obtain surface-modified silica gel with irreversibly adsorbed cyclohexane. This surface-modified silica gel is more excellent in a property of adsorbing cyclohexane than silica gel fired at a high temperature. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
