PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress troubles caused by deformation of a meniscus shape between adjacent discharge electrodes. SOLUTION: In an adjustment mode, a positive pulse voltage is supplied to discharge electrodes 20 of a group X and at the same time, a pulse voltage obtained by shifting the phase of the pulse voltage supplied to discharge electrodes 20 of the group X by only a 1/2 cycle is supplied to discharge electrodes 20 of a group Y. As a result, pigment particles 2a included in ink alternately repeat moving in a direction to near the discharge electrodes 20 of the group Y and moving in a direction to near the discharge electrodes 20 of the group X between discharge electrodes of both groups.
