PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toning method having excellent precision of reproducibility in a practical coating line. SOLUTION: In a coating system having a wet-on-wet coating process, the method of toning a coating material is performed by controlling the blending of the coating material to adjust the coating tone in the practical line by carrying out the coating out of the line and has a step S1 for measuring solid substance in the coating material in the setting of the wet-on-wet coating process in the practical line, a step S2 for forming a coated plate for a color tone comparison by blowing temperature controlled air in which the wind speed or the wind quantity and the temperature are controlled in the setting of the wet-on-wet coating process while comparing the solid matter in the coating material in the setting of the wet-on-wet coating process in a laboratory line with the solid matter in the practical line and a step S3 for controlling the blending of the coating material so that the coating color tone of the coated plate formed in the laboratory line becomes nearly equal to a standard color tone.
