PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope apparatus capable of transmitting both examination light and optical communication signal at the same time by using a common light guide with a simple and inexpensive structure. SOLUTION: The endoscope apparatus is mounted on an endoscope 1, and comprises a light transmitting means 13 and a light receiving means 21. The light transmitting means 13 irradiates the optical communication signal in the direction other than the outgoing optical axis O of illumination light going out of one end surface to the end surface of a light guide cable 2 connected to the endoscope 1. The light receiving means 21 receives the optical communication signal going out on the other end surface of the light guide cable 2 from the light transmitting means 13 in the direction other than the incoming optical axis O of the incoming illumination light on the end surface of the light guide cable 2.
