<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce battery load and other loads and improve fuel consumption and energy efficiency by reducing an excessive energy consumption during stopping of a vehicle in a vehicle traveling control device. <P>SOLUTION: When the leading vehicle is still stopped when the vehicle is stopped, the engine of the vehicle is laid in a stopped state to eliminate the energy consumption for forward movement which is not essentially required in stopping. Since the forward moving force is thus eliminated, the brake force for suppressing the force is also dispensed with, and the brake force can consequently be reduced in stopping the engine. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
