PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering method and a steering system in which a straight course to a target point can be traced even under the tide and wind by performing the control so that the ground proceeding azimuth is agreed with the target azimuth, the time to reach the target point is shortened, and any wasteful fuel consumption can be suppressed. SOLUTION: This steering system which detects the ship coordinates and the ship azimuth, operates the target azimuthαbased on the detection result and the preset target coordinates, and outputs the turning command to agree the ship azimuth to the azimuth based on the operation result comprises a navigation device 2 to detect the ground proceeding azimuthβ, a deviation operation unit 6 to operate the deviation between the ground proceeding azimuthβdetected by the navigation device 2 and the target azimuthα, and a turning operation controller 4 to output the turning command to agree the ship azimuth with the azimuth equivalent to the control deviationΔθoperated by the deviation operation unit 6.
