[Class 100 (i)] Apparatus for receiving and stacking cartons or blanks from punching &c. machines comprises a rotating wheel provided with substantially radially disposed spaces extending from its periphery and arranged to receive each blank edgewise, while the blank is inclined to the vertical, and carry it upwards to an inclined plane arranged to receive the bottom edges of each blank when it has been rotated to a substantially vertical position. The stamped-out blank 6 enters a tooth space of a toothed wheel 1 formed of two discs mounted upon a common hub 7; the blank enters the space horizontally and is raised to a vertical position by the rotation of the wheel, being guided during this movement by lateral guides 9. When substantially vertical; the blank passes on to an inclined plane 10, up which it is caused to move by the pressure of the teeth of the wheel 1 and of a co -operating and suitably driven second rotating wheel 12 ; the blank is finally passed vertically into the receptacle 11, which is provided with resilient hooks 16 and a movable stop 18. A dividing slip 20 of coloured paper may be introduced at suitable intervals into a tooth space for separating the blanks into numbered batches. When the blanks 1 are punched out three at a time, the three blanks are arranged in side-by-side but nested formation, and in order to deliver the three lines of blanks simultaneously they are caused to travel to three sets of toothed wheels and stackers along guide members which direct the centre blanks along a straight line, but divert the side blanks laterally outwards; by this means the blanks are separated and the centre blank is advanced relatively to the side blanks to the extent of one tooth space, and alternate teeth only receive blanks. |
