PURPOSE: A method and device for controlling a compressor of a multi-air conditioner is provided to extend the life span of an inverter compressor by shortening the time for driving the inverter compressor. CONSTITUTION: A compressor control device of a multi-air conditioner, which has a plurality of indoor units, a constant speed compressor(23), and an inverter compressor(21), comprises a load-computing unit(31) and a control unit(33). The load-computing unit computes the total sum of a cooling load for the operated indoor unit of a plurality of indoor units. The control unit controls the constant speed compressor and the inverter compressor with one of first and second operation modes. The first operation mode drives the inverter compressor when the total sum of the cooling load computed by the load-computing unit is below the half of the sum of the maximum cooling load of the indoor unit, and if over the half, the first operation mode drives the constant speed and inverter compressors. The second operation mode drives the constant speed compressor when the total of the cooling load from the load-computing unit is below the half of the sum of the maximum cooling load of the indoor unit, on the contrary, if over the half, the second operation mode drives the constant speed and inverter compressors at the same time.
