PURPOSE: An image forming system that corrects a temperature variation and a method for controlling the system are provided to compensate a variation in characteristics of components caused by a temperature variation through a thermistor set at a fixing unit without using a separate thermistor. CONSTITUTION: An image forming system includes a heat generating source(232) for applying heat to a developer(272) transferred onto a print paper(212), a fixing roller(234) for pressing the developer on the print paper, a thermistor(235) for detecting a heat temperature of the heat generating source, and a controller for controlling the fixing roller, heat generating source and internal components that perform an image forming process. The controller controls the heat temperature of the heat generating source according to a temperature detected by the thermistor, and compensates a characteristic variation caused by a temperature change in the components according to the temperature detected by the thermistor in the case that an off-state of the heat generating source continues for more than a predetermined period of time.
