PURPOSE: A paper size detecting apparatus used in an image forming device is provided to precisely detect a size of a paper by detecting the size of the paper using a sliding type variable resistor. CONSTITUTION: A paper size detecting apparatus includes a paper guide(11), a conveying distance shortening device, a sliding type variable resistor(40), and a control section. The paper guide(11) is installed at one side of a paper feeding cassette of an image forming device. A hinge(12) coupled to the conveying distance shortening device is installed at one end of the paper guide(11). The conveying distance shortening device includes first to fourth links(14,16,20,30). The first link(14) is connected to the hinge(12). The second link(16) is hinged to the other end of the first link(14). One end of the third link(20) is hinged to the other end of the first link(14). One end of the fourth link(30) is hinged to a body of the third link(20).
