PURPOSE: A square ferrite core, a lapping apparatus and a deflection yoke are provided to minimize defects of deflection yoke caused due to the size dispersion of ferrite core, while reducing power consumption. CONSTITUTION: A deflection yoke(DY) comprises a vertical deflection coil(14) and a horizontal deflection coil(12) for deflecting electron beams; a square ferrite core(20) having a small aperture portion and a large aperture portion, and an inner surface gradually changing from a circular shape into a non-circular shape as it goes from the smaller aperture portion of the neck portion side toward the large aperture portion of the funnel side, wherein the inner surface of the square ferrite core has lapped grooves formed at the spacing of 0.3 to 1.0mm; and a coil separator(10) having an inner shape changing from a circular shape into a non-circular shape as it goes from the neck side toward the funnel side, wherein the coil separator fixes the vertical and horizontal deflection coils and the square ferrite core to predetermined positions and allows for an insulation between the vertical deflection coil and the horizontal deflection coil.
