PURPOSE: A linear compressor is provided to prevent the direct clash between a piston and an intake valve and a cylinder head and to reduce the shock by moving the piston over a set top dead center. CONSTITUTION: A clash preventing member(40) is formed between the upper face of a cylinder block(31) and the end of an operating member(21) to prevent the shock between a piston(34) and a cylinder head(33) by moving the piston over a set top dead center. Thereby, the gap between the tip of the piston and the cylinder head when the piston is reached to the top dead center for a safety is minimized. Therefore, the efficiency and the volume efficiency are improved without increasing the size of a compressor.
