APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR CONTROLLING LUMINANCE OF MOTION-PICTURE SIGNAL IN REAL TIME

PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling luminance of a motion-picture signal in real time are provided to calculate histogram of an image from motion picture information inputted in real time and correct luminance of the image using the histogram in real time. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling luminance of a motion-picture signal includes a cumulative difference function detector(100), a video memory(150), and a luminance controller(120). The cumulative difference function detector calculates a cumulative difference function using upper n bits of an inputted image. The video memory stores the inputted image. The luminance controller controls luminance of the image in real time using the cumulative difference function calculated by the cumulative difference function detector when the image stored in the video memory is displayed.
